Information on hiring a local part-time domestic helper

It is important for employers to be aware that migrant domestic workers have a special visa, which only allows them to work for one employer/contract at a time. On this visa, they are only permitted to be employed under the Standard Employment Contract for domestic helpers.

Local domestic helpers are not on a domestic helper visa, are permitted to work part-time, and employers are not required to provide accommodation.

Hiring of part-time domestic workers in Hong Kong can be done through direct hiring or agencies. Usually, part-time workers hired through an agency can only assist in specific tasks such as cleaning service or childcare. Directly hired part-time domestic workers can assist with a wider range of tasks in accordance to the agreed labour contract. Please keep in mind this guide is for reference only and details may not be up-to-date. Please contact the businesses directly.

Direct Hire Platforms

Direct hiring for part-time domestic workers is usually advertised through online forums such as Geoexpat and Asiaxpat or through the online portal provided by Hong Kong Government.

Employers need to be aware that hiring a migrant domestic helper currently working for part-time work is illegal and doing so risks heavy penalty by the Hong Kong government for both parties.
